What is TC Boxing?

Located in the heart of North Minneapolis, Tolzmann's Twin Cities Boxing (TC Boxing) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been designated as a purely public charity under 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) of the IRS Publication Code. A USA-certified boxing gym, TC Boxing seeks to foster national and international amateur sports competition amongst inner city youth, keeping them away from crime, drugs, and substance/chemical abuse. As an intervention/prevention program for youth which uses the sport of amateur and professional boxing as an alternative to anti-social behavior and in combating youth crime, TC Boxing welcomes all ages (mininum age of 12), gender, and boxing experience (including amateurs and professionals) into our program.  Please note that we do offer personal training, group classes, and membership to adults of all ages and experience as ALL of the proceeds benefit our youth-focused program.

Why the Sport of Boxing? -- Promoting Mental and Physical Athleticism, Not Violence

Using endurance, power, speed, strength, agility, flexibility, speed, nerve, durability, hand-eye coordination, and analytic aptitude as athletic categorical indicators, a panel of experts from ESPN ranked the "sweet science" of BOXING as the toughest and most demanding atheletic sport in the world.  Boxing ranked the highest out of 60 sports selected and analyzed in this study and surpassed other physical sports including hockey, football, basketball, wrestling, martial arts, and soccer (see ESPN'S "Ulitmate Degree of Difficulty at http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/sportSkills for more information).  So, get off the couch, get into shape, and get to TC Boxing to experience one of the toughest sports of all time!

Purpose of TC Boxing -- Partnering with Other Youth-Focused Organizations to Achieve Our Mission

As stated in its Articles of Incorporation, the purposes of this institution are to exclusively engage in, assist, and contribute to the support of charitable activities including, but not limited to, lessening the burdens of government; lessening neighborhood tensions; eliminating prejudice and discrimination; combating community deterioration and juvenile delinquency; and to foster national or international sports competition with the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Our supporters and networking organizations include the Minneapolis Police Atheletic League (PAL), Hennepin County Juvenile Probation Department, YMCA Beacon Center at Nellie Stone Johnson School, Sheridan Global Arts & Communications Elementary School, Minnesota Transitions School (MTS), and Cleveland Neighborhood Association (CNA) among others.  (Note: Youth boxing scholarships are currently available for youth residents living in the Cleveland neighborhood - contact CNA directly for more info).  In addition, thanks to the generous donations from Jeff Warner (of Warner Stellian Appliances), Eastside Food Coop, Seward Community Coop, Linden Hills Coop, and Cub Foods, our gym now offers nutritional snacks and fruit to youth recipients of our program.

Why choose TC Boxing?

TC Boxing is a unique boxing gym that provides personal assessment and attention by professional and experienced boxers, trainers, and coaches to each individual that walks into our gym regardless of the participant's experience level. While we expect respect, timeliness, hard work, and dedication, we don't expect or pressure participants to compete unless they want to. Our professional boxers and coaches will mentor each youth and work as hard as they do - challenging and motivating them to a higher level, allowing them to reach their full physical and mental potential!

TC Boxing Program Goals:

Our program goals include: responsibility and accountability; respect by appreciation for both adversity and diversity; enhancement and development of a positive self-image; instillment in youth a very strong work ethic through the workmanship of boxing; sportsmanship; and progression as educated, law-abiding, and productive citizens. Our measures of success include living a clean and healty lifestyle; abstaining from drugs, chemcial, and alchohol abuse; avoiding negative peer influences; increasing school attendance; completing school and furthering one's education; and giving back to the community.  By doing the above, we provide youth with the tools necessary to be successful in all walks of life.
