About Becca Gilgen
USA Boxing coach and amateur fighter, Becca Gilgen (pictured to the right), trained for the opportunity to qualify for the women’s Olympic boxing team in 2005. Becca previously fought in the 165-weight class and prestigiously placed 2nd at the Ringside world championships in 2005 and 2nd at the Golden Gloves national tournament in 2006. She was ranked 6th in the nation prior to ending her competitive training; in response to the Olympic Committee’s decision to continue the ban on women’s Olympic competition. Since that time, Becca has devoted her attention to coaching amateur fighters and boxing enthusiasts.
Becca's passion for sports is exhibited in both her past and current activities as she has been a stellar athelte, mentor, and coach her entire life. She was a student athelete at the University of Wisconsin-Madison while completing her undergraduate degree in sociology and has coached fast-pitch softball, volleyball, and boxing throughout the Twin Cities. Becca has traveled throughout the U.S. competing, coaching, and sparring in amateur boxing events since 2001, in which she has gained unique experience and expertise from the talents of many coaches and fellow pugilists.
Becca has lived in Minneapolis since 1999. She finished her Master of Social Work in community organizing and advocacy from the University of Minnesota in May 2005 and currently works with the Hennepin County Research, Planning, and Development Department as a Planning Analyst. Becca holds extensive humanitarian and community service experience including volunteering as a board member with the Arizona Bridge Project (a youth program in the Whittier neighborhood) and also with Kohler Productions Advisory. Becca was selected as a TC Boxing partner not only based upon her extensive boxing expertise and experience, but also due to her personal and philanthropic mission to serve others and create peace and strength through self-awareness, which is consistent with TC Boxing's program goals.
